Since ~400,000 BCE the spear has been present. Starting as a sharpened stick, that could be burned to retain its point. Before long a sharpened stone or flint point was fashioned and secured to the end. The spear was imperative for the survival of all early humans to provide food and fend off predators.
Starting around 2000 BCE metallurgy began to sprout in the form of bronze. During this time the spear saw a revolution. Now fitted with a metal point, it found a home in the hands of all from farmers, to hunters, soldiers and even the various Gods of man. The spear evolved for the next few thousand years to equip nations to conquer and revolt, often being the primary force in devastating formations such as the phalanx.

Around 1300 AD black powder and firearms began to spread. Similar to the early spear countering hungry predators, the firearm allowed peasants to counter heavily armored knights. Because of long load times, these were later given a bayonet to prolong the spear’s existence. As technology advanced and firearms became more lethal, the need for a sharp pointy stick has eroded away, though arguably, the modern firearm is just the next evolution in the spear’s lineage.
We at Spear believe the lineage is still alive and strong.
Why choose Spear?

Our goal is to provide relevant training to private citizens and professional security contractors. There are many amazing instructors out there who have incredible classes, though they can often be out of touch with the average person and their needs. Physical security teams and citizens often fall victim to using the wrong amount of force and/or restricting an individuals right to freedom and movement, errors like this often result in criminal charges for the company, client and individual officer/citizens. Security teams and citizens general lack the confidence (which is gained through training) to properly resolve and handle serious situations correctly. Many times after an event, officers and citizens do not understand their body’s response and will feel shameful or resentful. Spear targets these lacking areas in training and corrects them in all courses we provide.

We attend the previously mentioned courses and pull the necessary techniques into our courses. We have learned amazing drills from Sheepdog Response and great teaching techniques from Handgun Safety Training. We pull critical drills from Get Trained Be Ready and others, and use them here. In addition to taking other courses, we will always push further education and development based on proven research and study from accredited colleges. Legal Issues for Use of Force, Active Shooter Response and Active Attack Event Response Leadership are among some of the current certificates held and awarded to Spear. We pride ourselves in rigorously testing all drills and their application prior to integrating into a course curriculum.

Our courses are more than learning stance, grip and the illusive trigger squeeze /pull; we also explore legal implications of use of force (both as a professional and private citizen), biological responses to stress stimuli and how to practice the taught skills at home. Students will leave with a depth of knowledge not shared in many other courses such as License To Carry or Texas Level Three Security Officer (armed) courses.
