Spear was created in order to offer entry, intermediate and advanced firearms skills to the public and private professionals. We are strong believers that knowledge first followed by good training are critical to staying alive and free.
State required minimum training for Concealed Carry and Private Security is unfortunately lacking. The required curriculum does not prepare students for the real situations they will be responsible for. Spear’s primary mission is to give everyone the training they should have when choosing to arm themselves.
All of Spear’s instructors (guest instructors included) are required to show an annual pursuit of knowledge in three critical areas. The instructor must continue to grow their shooting skills through attending other training programs. The instructor must continue to grow their knowledge through the constant study of use of force, tactics and case study. The instructor must also continue to grow their knowledge in effective communication through taking accredited courses or continued education.
All of Spear’s Range Safety Officers must maintain an active RSO certificate with an accredited academy’s training course. Our RSO’s must also complete an additional Spear specific RSO training module to demonstrate their ability to perform.
Introduction
Hey, I’m Tyler LaSpina, a certified instructor with over a decade of experience in security, firearms training and competitive shooting. I’ve trained and led armed security teams, competed in 3 Gun, USPSA and Speed Steel matches (regularly placing in the top 10%) and have real-world experience handling high-pressure use of Force situations. My background includes supervising security operations for multi-state high value logistics, cleared sites, defensive handgun instruction, data center security operations, public relations, theft/insider threat investigations and conflict resolution/use of force.
I keep my classes small—rarely more than three students—to provide the most effective training for the individual student. Simply put, the state required training is not enough (LTC, LVL III, LVL IV, etc.), I will help correct that and better prepare you and your team. If you’re ready to train, let’s get started.
